To start your desk interior, you must have a theme. The theme helps you set a standard for your desk, including keeping it clean.
Theme = Standard
There are multiple ways for you to set up your desk. If you want to focus on organizing your desk and improving work efficiency, your theme could be built around practicality. On the other hand, if you seek a personalized desk with modernism, you could make the theme around aesthetics.
The theme is the standard of your desk. If you don’t follow the standard, it’s very easy to lose the purpose of your desk.
To begin setting your theme,
1. Think about what you do most at your desk or what you want to do there.
Think about the purpose of your desk. What do you need it for? How else can you use it? Do you want to improve work efficiency, watch movies, play video games, listen to music, or make your desk a place to rest?
2. Decide whether you want maximalism or minimalism.
This is important in setting your theme. There comes a time when you want to put more than you need on your desk just because it fits your theme. You have to decide whether to work around many items or keep only essentials. Here’s a table to help you out.
3. Set the keywords that will describe your room (warm, cozy, modern, dark, etc)
When someone else sees your desk, what do you want them to think at first sight? Is it warm, clean, cozy, or professional? Build your theme around it. Your desk should be a place where you feel comfortable.
Here are some examples of good themes:
Cozy/Maximalism
White/Practical/Minimalism
Gamer/Maximalism/RGB
Plants/Simple/Life
The examples are all unique to different people’s themes. If you think you were really impressed by one of these images, try going for a similar theme. Although you might think it won’t be unique, it will be because each person has different perspectives toward any theme.
Also, you might notice that many of these examples go beyond the desk interior. Often, the desk is too small to express all the ideas. Then, we have to draw outside of the canvas. Try blending the wall or your entire room to expand your theme. In doing so, you will experience a significant change in your room.
Lastly:
Once you set a theme, if you like it, try your best to keep it. Of course, you can change it, but all desk interiors should have a clear theme. If there are multiple different themes that don’t blend, it is very hard to give the right impression. Look through more examples online to find the best theme for yourself!
